Modification of cellular DNA by synthetic aziridinomitosenes.
Two synthetic aziridinomitosenes (AZMs), Me-AZM and H-AZM, structurally related to mitomycin C (MC) were evaluated for their anticancer activity against six cancer cell lines (HeLa, Jurkat, T47D, HepG2, HL-60, and HuT-78) and tested for their DNA-modifying abilities in Jurkat cells. Cytotoxicity assays showed that Me-AZM is up to 72-fold and 520-fold more potent than MC and H-AZM, respectively....
متن کاملSurface Modification of Silicone Rubber Membrane by Microwave Discharge to Improve Biocompatibility
Wetability of biocompatible polymers can be improved by plasma surface modification. The purpose of this study was to surface modify an experimental poly (dimethylsiloxane) rubber (PDMS) material in order to improve its wetability and biocompatibility. Surface properties of the PDMS were characterized using contact angles measurement for wetability analysis. Samples of experimental silico...
متن کاملEvaluation of Vapor Deposition Techniques for Membrane Pore Size Modification
The suitability of three vapor deposition techniques for pore size modification was evaluated using polycarbonate track etched membranes as model supports. A feature scale model was employed to predict the pore geometry after modification and the resulting pure water flux. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) and pulsed plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), naturally, form asymmetric na...
متن کاملRewiring of cellular membrane homeostasis by picornaviruses.
Viruses are obligatory intracellular parasites and utilize host elements to support key viral processes, including penetration of the plasma membrane, initiation of infection, replication, and suppression of the host's antiviral defenses. In this review, we focus on picornaviruses, a family of positive-strand RNA viruses, and discuss the mechanisms by which these viruses hijack the cellular mac...
متن کاملSubversion of cellular functions by Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive bacterium that is able to invade and multiply within eukaryotic cells. Its intracellular life-cycle includes pathogen-induced phagocytosis, lysis of the phagocytic vacuole, movement in the cytoplasmic environment, and a cell-to-cell spread mechanism. Many L. monocytogenes virulence factors have been studied in detail, certain of which subvert specific e...
